PUMA - Giant Easy Rider III (3)

Back in January of this year, a mysterious package from PUMA arrived at doorsteps of several “key influencers� of the industry, including us here at Freshness.  It was none other than a Giant PUMA Clyde, all US Size 45 of it, as a fun novelty gift for the New Year.  Just last week, another mysterious package from PUMA arrived.  It yielded another Giant, this time, its the PUMA Easy Rider III.  Announced in 1978 and arrived in the marketplace in 1979, the Easy Rider, along with the PUMA Fast Runner, were among the first major entries into the running footwear category for PUMA.  Its “spring struts� outsole and extended backsole design allows runners to maximize their natural running motions.  When the distance running craze tapered off in the mid-80s, Easy Rider III, like the Clyde, became a favorite among urban trendsetters.  Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, PUMA created a limited number of the Giant Easy Rider III.  Each constructed from the same identical materials of leather and suede as its “normal� counterpart. What you are looking at is not adult and GS sizes of the Puma Easy Rider III it is in fact a size 54 model of the shoe. Of course nobody wears a size 54 but Puma thought they’d raise a few eyebrows by sending a few key people a very large shoe and what an impression it makes. The big shoe is an exact oversized replica of the smaller one that features a leather and suede construction and also comes with a USB drive and history of the shoe. When a large package from Puma arrived at Freshness back in January, nobody was expecting anything like the giant US size 45 Puma Clyde that was contained inside. Recently, another large box showed up from Puma, and this time, the Freshness crew was a little more prepared. Inside the box was not the mate to the giant Puma Clyde, but another huge promotional version of a different Puma classic. This time around, it’s the Easy Rider III that’s being presented to several key “influencers� in the sneaker community. Airwalk Teams with Surfrider Founda

words_Nick EngvallAirwalk’s relationship with action sports has always been a major focus of the company. With a number surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders on their team, the company continues to be in touch with the culture around each of those sports. While many companies are trying to help their sponsored athletes become rock stars, Airwalk focuses on making a difference in the community. This weekend, with the help of their sponsored surfer, Anastasia Ashley, they have teamed up with The Surfrider Foundation for some good-natured beach cleanup.Saturday December 5th you can join Airwalk and the Surfrider Foundation at Oahu’s famous north shore locale, Sunset Beach Park. In addition to cleaning up the park, Anastasia and Airwalk will be giving 25 pairs of her signature sneaker to the first to arrive. Anastasia describes the shoe as “surfer-Barbie meets rock-and-roll bohemian.� The cleanup runs from 10-12pm at Sunset Beach Park. Airwalk will also be providing lunch and a limited number of t-shirts for those that participate in the cleanup. close
