words_Nick DePaulaphotography_Steve MullholandAs published in Sole Collectorâ€â„¢s Issue 26 : Available HEREWith Kobe Bryant now part of the Nike Basketball family, Eric Avar and the team of developers he was working with in the Innovation Kitchen aimed to provide him with a more modern piece of performance footwear rooted in light weight, support and minimalism. “It wasnâ€â„¢t a pure Flight shoe, it wasnâ€â„¢t a Force shoe and it wasnâ€â„¢t an Uptempo shoe; it was just a shoe unto itself,â€� explains Avar. It drafted back to Tinker Hatfieldâ€â„¢s original Flight Huarache, as the 2K4 would incorporate a similar ankle area cutaway, but it also took on a more streamlined and simplistic aesthetic based on the needs of Bryant. “Heâ€â„¢s an extremely dynamic and versatile player,â€� says Avar. “He can be extremely quick, but at the same time he can be extremely explosive and powerful. Early on, we just figured that his product had to be versatile, and it really had to cover off all ends of the spectrum. It had to be the best of everything, like Kobeâ€â„¢s style and his game. They were rightfully expecting the sametop-notch performance attributes, and the next evolution of the line wouldnâ€â„¢t disappoint, as the Eric Avar-designed Huarache 2K5 featured a similar collar strap for protection and once again incorporated the highly responsive Zoom Air for cushioning. “We felt like we had something good going with the 2K4, and Tinker [Hatfield] always says, ‘Every third Jordan or so, you really change things up from a performance and construction standpoint and from a visual standpoint,â€â„¢â€� says Avar. “The 2K5 was coming very much on the heels of the 2K4, and we felt like we had a goodthing going and we didnâ€â„¢t want to reinvent the wheel too much with this one.â€�Rather than entirely re-craft the look of the Huarache 2K4 that people seemed to be falling in love with, Avar looked instead to the performance attributes of the shoe that could use some improvemen close

Nike Zoom Barcelona - Air Force 180

So far, 2009 has been a good year for Nike Basketball with the LeBron and Kobe shoes both getting high praise and the Hyperize and Hypermax picking up right where the Hyperdunk left off. Now it’s time to take a look at 2010 and the wonders that are in store for the Nike b-ball line. Helping to lead the charge will be the Zoom Barcelona, which like many of the other new models, is a hybrid of some classic styles. The Zoom Barcelona takes its most obvious cues from the Air Force 180, but there are also some additional elements from the Huarache as well, giving the shoe something of an early 90’s look, but with a contemporary twist. The name, Zoom Barcelona, indicates that these kicks may be considered some kind of tribute to the original Dream Team, who cruised to the gold in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 x Air Jo

He may have escaped Shaq’s massive shadow, but it will take two more Larry O’Brien Trophies before Kobe Bryant can enter the ‘Jordan’ stratosphere.  It’s unquestionable that Michael’s unmatched brilliance drives Kobe, clear that Air Jordan made a mark on Jellybean Bryant’s boy from a young age.  When he left adidas back in 2003, KB24 wore a ton of different shoes, including a wide variety of Air Jordan retros.The following year, he signed with Nike and helped them revive the Huarache line.  The samples pictured above, then, are a glimpse into a summer romance that never was.  The Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4‘ x Air Jordan XI is one of those things we’d assume will never hit shelves, except for Nike’s recent zeal towards hybrid models.  It’s actually pretty straightforward, with a simple white, black and red Huarache 2K4 upper connected to an AJXI sole that is conspicuous by its use of an opque black outsole.  Take a look at the photos after the jump and let us know if you would have bought these.  via KenluRead the rest of Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 x Air Jordan XI (11) – Wear Test Sample© Sneaker N close

Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 x Air Jo

Before the Jordan purists get too upset just know this was just a sample and will probably never be released. With that being said, this is more of Kobe Bryant X Michael Jordan collaboration than it is a fusion. When Kobe signed with Nike he helped bring life back to the Huarache line and this Air Jordan 11 based design was an idea as part of the movement.The sneaker, surprisingly, is very basic.
