Nike P-Rod x Tinker x Jordan - Zoom

While growing up in San Fernando Valley, Paul Rodriguez (P-Rod) would take his skateboard to the loading dock at his local Albertsons supermarket and practice tricks. Fast forward a handful of years and Paul Rodriguez was blessed with a signature shoe from Nike SB. Then, the greatest designer to ever blueprint a bubble decided to put his own hands on the first Nike P-Rod. Sir Tinker Hatfield is the architect and designer who fused elements of the first P-Rod sneakers with cement print and the Air Jordan logo. Hatfield’s creation is known today as the Tinker-Rod. Pictured here is a rare sample of the sneakers with the Albersons supermarket logo etched in the toe-box. words_Nick DePaulaphotography_Steve MullholandAs published in Sole Collectorâ€â„¢s Issue 26 : Available HEREWith Kobe Bryant now part of the Nike Basketball family, Eric Avar and the team of developers he was working with in the Innovation Kitchen aimed to provide him with a more modern piece of performance footwear rooted in light weight, support and minimalism. “It wasnâ€â„¢t a pure Flight shoe, it wasnâ€â„¢t a Force shoe and it wasnâ€â„¢t an Uptempo shoe; it was just a shoe unto itself,â€� explains Avar. It drafted back to Tinker Hatfieldâ€â„¢s original Flight Huarache, as the 2K4 would incorporate a similar ankle area cutaway, but it also took on a more streamlined and simplistic aesthetic based on the needs of Bryant. “Heâ€â„¢s an extremely dynamic and versatile player,â€� says Avar. “He can be extremely quick, but at the same time he can be extremely explosive and powerful. Nike Zoom Barcelona - Air Force 180

So far, 2009 has been a good year for Nike Basketball with the LeBron and Kobe shoes both getting high praise and the Hyperize and Hypermax picking up right where the Hyperdunk left off. Now it’s time to take a look at 2010 and the wonders that are in store for the Nike b-ball line. Helping to lead the charge will be the Zoom Barcelona, which like many of the other new models, is a hybrid of some classic styles. The Zoom Barcelona takes its most obvious cues from the Air Force 180, but there are also some additional elements from the Huarache as well, giving the shoe something of an early 90’s look, but with a contemporary twist. The name, Zoom Barcelona, indicates that these kicks may be considered some kind of tribute to the original Dream Team, who cruised to the gold in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
